Robin A. Buhrke, PhD
I am a licensed psychologist and have been practicing for many years. I am an Integrative Health Coach, having completed Duke University's Integrative Health Coach Professional Training program.
Personally, my interest in health coaching stems from my own transformation over the past 4-5 years. After too many years of leading a sedentary life, being overweight, and failing at a multitude of diets, I embarked on a weight loss and fitness journey that has transformed my life. Although far from a linear process or perfect, I've managed to lose 70 pounds, have completed two marathons, countless half marathons, and a half iron distance triathlon. I have come to the athletic/fitness 'table' later in life, I have discovered a great deal along the way, and I have a lot yet to learn. The challenge is in making the day-to-day, sometimes moment-to-moment decisions to facilitate health, and to pick myself up after stumbling. One of my biggest joys is supporting others in their journeys to become more healthy and fit. I love helping and encouraging others to take the first and subsequent steps to changing their lives. I have worked with people who go from struggling to run for 30 seconds to joyfully running a 5K or half marathon. I support friends, family, and coworkers in getting more active. I'm not an 'athletic specimen', I'm not fast, I'm losing my battle with gravity, and yet I'm proof that you don't have to be skinny to be fit, to feel good, to have fun, and to compete. I have a particular soft spot for helping those who have struggled for so long that change seems impossible. I am living proof that it's never too late to change your life. Training as a health coach has helped me to continue my own journey and improve my ability and opportunity to help others.
